A Second Chance

A second chance, what does it mean? It depends on who you talk to, over the past years I have been getting letters, emails and phone calls from people around the world that got just that, a second chance. Take the bowhunter for example, that is up in years, and can no longer pull his compound bow, due to a severe case of arthritis. Or the person who lost their fingers, or worse yet, a hand, due to an accident of some sort. Should that person just sit back and reflect on the cool fall mornings they enjoyed, sitting in wait for that big buck to make his appearance? How does one give all that up? Well today they don’t have to. Enter the crossbow. What a truly wonderful weapon we have at our disposal today.

The crossbow is just what the doctor ordered. The crossbow will give that person who is up in years, a tool that will allow him the opportunity to enjoy what he has always enjoyed. The same goes for the person who was injured. A lot of individuals I have spoken with stated that the reason they didn’t pick up a crossbow sooner, was due to the flack they had received from their hunting buddies; some buddies, don’t you think? “You want to use a crossbow? That’s not a bow; it’s more like a gun. It’s too easy; you don’t want to do that.” Those so called “Friends” are really looking out for themselves, some friends.

Today we are losing hunters by large numbers due to pressure from the media, family and or some other so called non-hunting friends. You don’t want to be a hunter killing Bambi do you?” Or maybe they just moved and don’t want to start all over in a new area trying to find a new honey hole. Whatever the case, believe me we are losing them.

Again, enter the crossbow. Here is the perfect weapon to introduce a young person to the sport of hunting. With some instruction, that person can get good real quick with some practice. A youth does not have the patience or the strength to shoot a compound bow. Chances are, later in life they will also shoot a compound bow, but the crossbow is what introduced them to the sport. Enough said for now, on second chances. Encourage everyone to give the crossbow a shot; I am sure they will thank you for it.

In this issue be sure to check out Riley Foster’s antelope hunt. Riley and team Horton Pay dirt in Wyoming at Rafter B Outfitters. Dick Gardner’s Don’t You Know Its Huntin’ Season!
